Lawyer Guide ? Blog Archive ? Personal Injury Lawyers Are Always ...

When you need a personal injury lawyer, you have to act quickly. You want to make sure that you strike while the proverbial iron is hot for a few reasons. First and foremost, it?s easy to forget key details that pertain to your case. The lawyer will need as much information as possible in order to get things done for you. On the other hand, if you?re worried constantly about how to get things done, then you?re not going to make sharp choices anyway. You?re always going to end up spinning your wheels, and that?s not something that you really want to deal with anyway. It?s better to just make sure that you have all of your bases covered, than to assume that you will have nothing to worry about.

The reality here is that legal representation is a beautiful thing. First and foremost, it sets the tone of the entire case. If the other side has legal representation, you want to make sure that you have some of your own. You cannot just assume that the other side will want to play fair. That?s a good way to make sure that you don?t get any compensation at all.

If you?re feeling like compensation is a bad thing, don?t think like that at all. The reality here is that you have been in an accident that isn?t your fault, and you need help getting your life back on track. If you have a family, then you know all too well that the bills can really slide out of control. You want to think about the bigger picture. Do you really think that you can afford to skip compensation with all of the bills are stacking up and you haven?t even touched the medical bills? That?s something that should be on your mind before anything else.

Of course, if you?re worried about not being able to afford the lawyer, that?s a natural concern. Yet here?s the good news that you need to know right here and right now ? you aren?t going to have legal bills to worry about. Personal injury lawyers work on a no win no fee basis. This is also known as a contingency basis. It?s a good thing because it means that they are essentially working on commission. They will study the unique merits of your case. If they feel that it has merit in court, they will pursue it for you. This means that they?re going to be working not only for your best interests, but for the most compensation that they can possibly get you. That means that they?re going to be receiving a percentage of your compensation award to make up for the time that they had to spend on your case.

But when it?s a matter of getting your life back on track, or suffering silently, we know which one you should pick. Pick the outcome that means that you have a chance to get things back together. Pick the outcome that means that you?re going to have a great experience, in spite of the worst happening! Good luck!

Can Packers get back on track?

SNF game against undefeated Houston isn?t a must win, but it certainly would be much-needed

ANALYSIS

By Greg Bedard

NBCSports.com contributor

updated 3:07 p.m. ET Oct. 13, 2012

Greg Bedard

It doesn?t get much worse for the Packers than last week?s 30-27 loss to the Colts, who are in the early stages of a rebuilding effort and are basically an expansion team.

The Packers led the game 21-3, and fell to 2-3 on the season.

Their season, which had them pegged as a Super Bowl favorite before the season, is at a crossroads. Sunday night?s game against the Texans isn?t a must win, but it certainly would be much-needed.

The good news is that this group, led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, has been in this position before.

And they?ve triumphed each time against a familiar face.

In 2009, the Packers suffered a terrible 38-28 road loss to the then-winless Buccaneers to drop to 4-4.

The next week, the 6-2 Cowboys came to Lambeau Field and were dominated 17-7 by the Packers in a game they led 17-0.

Green Bay finished 11-5 and lost an overtime playoff game to the Cardinals.

In 2010, the Packers lost 23-20 in overtime to a Dolphins team that would finish 7-9.

Green Bay won its next four games, including a home win against Brett Favre and the Vikings 28-24, on the road 9-0 against a Jets team that entered the game 5-1, and a 45-7 home victory over the Cowboys.

The Packers finished 10-6, squeaked into the playoffs and won the Super Bowl.

Those Cowboys teams were coached by Wade Phillips.

He?ll be on the sideline Sunday night in Houston as the Texans? defensive coordinator.

Phillips? counterpart will, just like in the previous two meetings, be Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers, who was the head coach of the expansion Texans from 2002-05.

That?s just one of the many subplots in this nationally televised showdown. To emerge with a victory, the Packers and Texans (5-0) will need to hit on three keys to the game.

Packers
Be gap sound vs. the run:
The Texans, behind star running back Arian Foster, are sixth in the league with 143.0 yards per game on the ground. They do it with a perfect blend of a well-executed zone blocking scheme, where the line tries to stretch out the defense laterally while opening up running lanes, and Foster?s elite ability to anticipate the hole and burst through it. The Packers must contain the Texans? running game or else they?ll never get off the field. If nose tackle B.J. Raji (ankle) can?t play, it would be a huge blow for the Packers. Veteran Ryan Pickett would have to slide from end to the nose, and C.J. Wilson and rookie Jerel Worthy would be the ends. All three must hold their gaps against the offensive line, and allow the four linebackers ? Erik Walden/Nick Perry, A.J. Hawk, D.J. Smith and Clay Matthews ? to properly wall up against the run. The secondary must fill and have to make repeated clean tackles.

Be productive on the first two downs: Because of penalties and poor execution, the Packers have repeatedly got themselves into bad distances on third down. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been sacked six times on his 20 dropbacks on third down with 9-plus yards to go (30 percent). His completion percentage of 65.9 percent on third down is his lowest on any down. The Packers need to find a way to be successful on the first two downs ? running the ball, even without Cedric Benson (foot injury), would help ? so Rodgers is in a better position. That?s especially true against the Texans, who like to blitz and have an excellent pass rush. But when given the opportunity, the Packers need to test the Texans? secondary, which is soft at safety, and at nickel back with Brice McCain. This could be a breakout game for slot receiver Randal Cobb.

Stop Watt: Texans end J.J. Watt is on his way to being NFL Defensive Player of the Year with his 8.5 sacks, 12 quarterback hits, 11 tackles for a loss and eight passes batted down at the line of scrimmage. He?s big (6-6, 295 pounds), fast and relentless. On passing downs, Watt moves inside to left defensive tackle. That should match him up against the Packers? best offensive lineman, right guard Josh Sitton. With Antonio Smith being another very good interior rusher, the Packers are going to have to have a sound plan. It starts with Watt. The Packers must limit his impactful plays. Force the other Texans to generate pressure against Rogers, because right now Watt is a one-man wrecking crew.

Texans keys
Account for Clay Matthews:
There is no question that the outside linebacker is the biggest playmaker for the Packers. He?s explosive rushing the passer, and has great instincts to knife through against the run and stop it. With the right side of the Texans? line with guard Antoine Caldwell and tackle Derek Newton being much weaker than the left, expect the Packers to keep Matthews on the defensive left side for much of the game. Even if the Texans have to keep a tight end to double Matthews, Houston must do it. If Matthews is contained, the Packers are going to have a hard time getting off the field.

Control the clock: With their excellent rushing attack, and perhaps the league?s best play-action passing game, the Texans are tough to get off the field for even the NFL?s most disciplined defenses. If the Texans can control the game on the ground and through a short, effective passing attack, it?s going to put pressure on the Packers? offense to produce on each drive. The Texans should focus on grinding out this game, because it?s what they do best. The Packers want to be explosive and the game to be fast paced. If they can?t get either, the Packers are going to start pressing and that?s when mistakes can happen.

Make the Packers drive the field: Without Benson, receiver Greg Jennings (groin) and possibly tight end Jermichael Finley (shoulder), the Packers are lacking big-play players. Texans cornerbacks Johnathan Joseph and Kareem Jackson should be able to hold their own on the outside. McCain, the nickel corner, could have a tough matchup against Cobb. In any event, the Texans should err on playing more conservatively. The Packers have been sloppy on offense so far with sacks, penalties and dropped passes. If the Texans give the Packers enough rope (driving the length of the field) on each possession, they might just do part of the work for the Texans by stalling themselves. That?s what Green Bay has done so far this season.

Tips For Choosing A Small Business Web Hosting Provider

If you have a small business and would like to take advantage of the power of internet, you have to create a competent website and tap a web hosting provider to host your business website.

Web hosting provider

If you still don?t have online presence or are not satisfied with your current web hosting provider, it is best to spend time reading and researching in order to find out how to search for the best web hosting provider for your business.

What You?ll Need

If it?s just a small business website or a personal website, you will need up to 100GB bandwidth, SSL Certificate, E-Commerce support, up to 5 GB Disk Space, and SQL Database. Because you?re still new to the business, you don?t expect a lot of traffic at first therefore you?ll just require 100GB bandwidth. Once you continue hitting the maximum bandwidth limit because a lot of visitors are checking your site, you can upgrade your web hosting package. If you?re thinking of putting up an online store then you?ll have to ask you web hosting provider to provide SSL Certificate. You?ll also need E-commerce support. At the start, you?ll just need about 5 GB disk space but you have to upgrade if you?ll need to load huge files and more pages. For the SQL Database, you?ll just need one.

Determine The Kind Of Website You Want

A business website can focus on affiliate marketing. It can also sell products or services. Lastly, a business website can be a combination of the three: products, services, and affiliate marketing. If you want to put up a website, your needs will depend on the kind of website you want to create. It is also the same needs your web hosting provider must fulfil.

Choose A Reliable Web Hosting Provider

There are a lot of web hosting providers out there. If you?re new into this, you have to carefully read and research about these providers before buying a web package. There are online reviews which you can read to learn from other web hosting customers. You have to choose a reputable provider who is reliable because your website?s reputation is also affected by your provider?s reliability.

Flexibility and Scalability

When you put up a website, you must expect your business to grow. As you grow, you?ll need additional resources for your website because the basic small business web hosting package will no longer be enough. However, you can?t buy more complex web hosting package for now because it?s more expensive and it?s not what you need right now. But when you buy a small business web hosting package, you have to ensure that you can easily upgrade to a bigger package.

Excellent Customer Support

As a small business owner, you are expected by your customers to provide quality service and support and as such, you must also expect it from your web hosting provider. If you choose a reputable web hosting provider, you must also check if it provides an excellent customer service. In general, the web hosting provider must have a ticketing system for customer queries and complaints. If you seek customer support, the web hosting company must be able to provide a guaranteed response within a reasonable time frame. The web hosting provider must have a valid email address where you can contact them as well as Live Chat and telephone number. As a service to their customers, the web hosting company must provide a toll-free number and a reliable Live Chat feature so that you can report your issues easily.

Thousands of UK troops to quit Afghanistan in '13

Britain plans to withdraw thousands of troops from Afghanistan next year, Defence Secretary Philip Hammond said on Sunday, as pressure mounts to end British involvement in the costly and unpopular war.

More than 430 British troops have been killed in Afghanistan since the U.S.-led intervention in 2001, yet stability remains elusive and violence high, while relations between Western troops and Afghan forces and civilians are increasingly frayed.

Britain on Sunday said it had charged five soldiers with murder as part of an investigation into what it called an engagement with an insurgent in Afghanistan last year, and that a total of nine soldiers had been arrested in connection with the case.

Some 500 British troops are to be withdrawn from Afghanistan by the end of this year, leaving around 9,000 still there.

Asked about troop withdrawals next year, Hammond told the BBC: "I would expect it will be significant, which means thousands, not hundreds, but I would not expect it to be the majority."

Two foreigners feared kidnapped in Afghanistan

That would indicate a potential withdrawal of up to 4,500 personnel in 2013.

All British combat troops are due to leave Afghanistan by the end of 2014.

Britain's defence budget, like that of other NATO members, is under pressure, forcing the defence ministry to slash spending and cut force numbers and equipment programs.

Slideshow: Afghanistan as war begins (on this page)

The Treasury, struggling to revive a flagging economy, earlier this year said it would use money once earmarked for the military mission in Afghanistan to fund tax cuts.

MURDER CHARGE

Media reports said the murder investigation was triggered by footage discovered on the laptop of a man who had been serving in Afghanistan of what appeared to be a wounded insurgent and of British soldiers discussing whether to administer first aid.

Seven British marines arrested in Afghanistan murder probe

The ministry said it could neither confirm or deny the reports.

"The Royal Military Police (RMP) has arrested two further Royal Marines on suspicion of murder in relation to an incident alleged to have taken place in Afghanistan in 2011, taking the total number arrests to nine," the ministry said.

"The RMP has referred the cases of the remaining five Royal Marines to the independent Service Prosecuting Authority ... these marines have now been charged with murder," it added.

Video: US troops in Afghanistan mark 9/11 (on this page)

Relations between Western forces and Afghan civilians have been strained in the past year after U.S. soldiers burned copies of the Koran at a NATO base and a U.S. soldier was accused of killing 16 civilians in a rampage in March.

A video surfaced in January depicting U.S. Marines urinating on corpses.

Ties between Western troops and Afghan forces have also deteriorated after a series of "insider" attacks against NATO coalition troops by Afghan soldiers or by militants wearing Afghan military uniform.

Levitra as a short-term solution to the sexual difficulties that arise from

There are plenty of reasons to quit smoking: from causes cancer and heart and respiratory problems to making you smell bad and beiing expensive. But did you know it could also have a negative impact on your sexual health?

When a large amount of blood enters the penis, the result is an erection. Smoking causes a condition called atherosclerosis, which is the hardening of the arteries. Some of the smallest arteries supply blood to the penis. When atherosclerosis occurs, these are often the first arteries to be affected, due to their small size. The hardening of these arteries restricts blood flow to the penis, and as a result, many men will have difficulty attaining and maintaining an erection. In fact, ED is often seen as an early warning sign of atherosclerosis.

It?s never too late to quit smoking, and the consequences can go far beyond sexual problems. Atherosclerosis doesn?t just cause ED, it?s a serious condition that causes problems throughout the body. The best way to prevent or slow down the condition is to quit smoking, and the best way to treat the ED is to treat the atherosclerosis.

That being said, there are short-term solutions to the sexual difficulties that arise from smoking. Levitra is a medication that relieves the symptoms of ED. It is not a cure, but it does enable people who are suffering from ED to engage in sexual activity. The medication works by blocking the release of a chemical called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). This chemical keeps the muscles in the penis from relaxing and allowing blood to flow to the area; by blocking its release, Levitra allows the blood to flow to the penis, thereby enabling an erection to occur.

Levitra works best when ED results from a physical condition, such as atherosclerosis. For the drug to work, the man must be sexually aroused. It does not work as an aphrodisiac, and it will not automatically force an erection; it doesn?t send a signal for an erection, it simply gives the penis the proper tools to allow it to happen.

A Pet Food Company Is Recalling Dog Treats Over Salmonella ...

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) ? A pet food company is voluntarily recalling dog treats that could be contaminated with salmonella.

Nature?s Recipe announced Saturday the recall of a limited supply of its ?Nature?s Recipe Oven Baked Biscuits with Real Chicken,? which were manufactured at its plant in Topeka, Kan., and distributed nationally _ primarily through pet specialty retailers.

The company says the product has the potential to be contaminated with salmonella, which can affect animals eating the products and pose a risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products.

Nature?s Recipe officials say no pet or human illnesses have been reported, but suggest that pet owners monitor themselves and their dogs for signs of salmonella and seek medical care if symptoms worsen.

The company says the recall is precautionary, and advises consumers who bought the recalled treats to discard them immediately.

The recalled treats were sold in 19-ounce stand-up resealable pouches. The products included in the recall are marked with the Lot Codes 2199TP or 2200TP and a UPC Code of 30521 51549. The pouches also have a ?Best If Used By Date? stamp of ?10 11 13? and ?10 12 13.?

Washoe County foreclosures down 70 percent | Reno Real Estate ...

Covering a report released yesterday by RealtyTrac, the Reno Gazette-Journal reports that for Washoe County:

  • 3rd-quarter foreclosures are down 70%
  • September foreclosures are down nearly 10 percent compared to August
  • September 2012 foreclosures are down nearly 75 percent compared to September 2011

The RealtyTrac report references state-specific legislation enacted within the past year as affecting the number of foreclosure-related filings. In Nevada?s case, that legislation would be Assembly Bill 284 (AB284). Regular readers of this blog will recall that AB284 went into effect on October 1 last year.

See the RGJ story here: County foreclosures continue to decline
See the RealtyTrac report here: Foreclosure Activity Drops to 5-Year Low in September

Below are the states with the largest annual decreases in foreclosure activity in the third quarter:?

  1. Nevada: 71 percent decrease
  2. Oregon: 63 percent
  3. Utah: 60 percent
  4. Virginia: 34 percent
  5. California: 29 percent
  6. Michigan: 28 percent
  7. Arizona: 23 percent
  8. Colorado: 21 percent
  9. Georgia: 20 percent

Colbert: Super-rich earned their super-wealth

By Craig Berman, NBC News contributor

On the night of the vice-presidential debate, both Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert were hamstrung by their early tape times. Anyone waiting for their take on the Joe Biden-Paul Ryan slugfest would have to wait until Monday.

That didn?t stop Colbert from discussing it briefly, even though he admitted up front. ?I haven?t seen it yet. Nor will I ever ? it?s the vice-presidential debate.?

He focused on the complaints from the right that the moderator was Martha Raddatz. President Barack Obama was at her wedding 21 years ago to Obama?s law school classmate -- who she divorced in 1997.?

For Colbert, it?s enough to prove a conspiracy. ?He knew that panini press would pay off eventually for the running mate he hadn?t met yet,? the host said. And if the gift wasn?t enough, there was the implied social obligation to tilt the scales for Biden. After all, ?What woman doesn?t love doing a favor for her ex-husband?s friends??

Then again, who needs petty friends like Raddatz anyway? Colbert?s guest was author Chrystia Freeland, plugging her book ?Plutocrats, The Rise of the New Global Super-Rich and the Fall of Everyone Else.?

Of course, Colbert sees no problem with that trend. ?Why is that a problem? The super-rich have super-earned all their super-wealth.?

Freeland agreed that this was the attitude among her subject group. Some argue that the tax burden should be reduced because of their voluntary contributions to their favorite causes, which presumably are more appropriate than the government?s plan for their tax dollars.

?We may not need roads or schools, but we do need the ballet,? Colbert said.

?Exactly. You may not need air traffic controllers, because you have your own private jet,? Freeland responded.

Stewart, meanwhile, focused on the low-hanging fruit: the downticket races. Like his old friend from Missouri, Senate candidate Todd Akin, and his thoughts on how the female body can protect itself from becoming pregnant if a woman is?really raped.

?Yeah, the female body shuts it down if it?s legitimate rape,? Stewart said, of its magical powers. ?It can repel rape sperm! It can turn ordinary rocks into beautiful gems in minutes!?

He also noted the divergent attitudes towards military service displayed by Florida candidate Allen West, who touts his own work in his TV ads, and Illinois? Joe Walsh, who says opponent Tammy Duckworth talks about her own service too much in contrast to the ?real heroes? who minimize their contributions.

?Can I be there when you tell Allen West he?s not a real hero?? Stewart hoped.

Elsewhere on "Live!", Jimmy Kimmel suggested the participants in various presidential and vice-presidential debates could be kept within stricter time limits if they were only treated like winners on award shows -- by being played off with music. After showing an example of Vice-President Joe Biden being handled in such a way, Kimmel quipped, "He didn't even have a chance to thank his agent."

And "Late Show's" David Letterman decided to lease up on Mitt Romney, turning on VP candidate Paul Ryan instead, with "Top 10 Thoughts Going Through Paul Ryan's Mind At This Moment," referring to photos of Ryan pumping iron and wearing a backwards-facing baseball cap.

"It's like the Backstreet Boys or something," said Letterman derisively of the photo shoot.

So what was Ryan's No. 1 thought during the shoot? "Maybe now?people will take me seriously."

Biden, the anti-Obama, brings exasperation to debate with Ryan

On Thursday night, vice president Joe Biden and congressman Paul Ryan sat at a semi-circular piece of corporate office furniture to debate various aspects of foreign and domestic policy.?With moderator Martha Raddatz at the helm, the 90-minute conversation between the two contenders began fairly civilly, and grew increasingly snippy.

Those hoping for a few true wildman outbursts or gaffes from the easily lampooned Biden were disappointed. The vice president, however, grinning hugely, shaking his head and even giggling during some of his opponent's answers, did seem exasperated with the much younger congressman for most of the debate.

Answering the moderator's first question, about the recent terrorist attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya, Biden, a former chairperson of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, promised that the Obama administration would "find and bring justice to the men" responsible for the death of Ambassador Chris Stevens and the three other Americans killed during the attack.

Ryan came back with the claim that the president's foreign policy is "making us less safe."

Shortly after, Biden had his first bona fide 'Biden moment': "With all due respect, that's a bunch of malarkey," he said. (Moments later "malarkey" and "malarky" were trending on Twitter.)

As the candidates segued to domestic issues, Biden went after the Romney/Ryan ticket for being on the side of fat cats. "They continue to put the interest of millionaires and billionaires ... ahead of the military and middle class," Biden said.

In response?and attempting to defend Romney's controversial 47 percent remark?Ryan said (to laughter), "I think the vice president knows, sometimes the words don't always come out of your mouth the way you want."

"But I always say what I mean," Biden retorted with a grin.

The vice president did seem to say what he meant for much of the debate, even looking straight at the camera and addressing viewers directly.

On Medicare, Biden asked: "Folks, all you seniors out there, have you been denied choices?" It was a daytime television commercial moment fit for a consummate salesman: there should have been an 800 number for people to dial so Biden could chat with them.

Raddatz also questioned the candidates about their tickets' respective tax plans. Biden pointed his pointer finger at Raddatz and proclaimed for the second time during the debate that Romney and Ryan were intending "to [hold] the middle class hostage."

Ryan, sounding like a wonky accountant running numbers and bobbing his head side to side a bit like a turtle, responded that there aren't enough rich people to pay for the Obama administration's spending. Then, taking a cue from Biden, he addressed the camera directly: "Watch out middle class, the tax bill is coming to you."

(At 9:53 p.m. ET, "Joe Biden's teeth" was also trending on Twitter.)

Ryan also claimed that bipartisanship could make his ticket's vague proposed tax plan work.

"Different than this administration, we actually want to have big, bipartisan agreements," Ryan said, suggesting cooperation could lead to budget cuts that would pay for a 20 percent tax cut across the board for Americans. "Look at what Tip O'Neil and Ronald Reagan did. They worked out of a framework."

"The only way you can find $5 trillion in deductions is to cut deductions for the middle class," Biden said. Otherwise, it's "not mathematically possible."

"It is mathematically possible," Ryan responded. "Jack Kennedy lowered taxes and raised revenue."

This provoked the only line that could possibly count as the debate's real zinger.

"Oh, now you're Jack Kennedy," Biden said, evoking visions of the 1988 vice-presidential debate between Lloyd Bentsen and Dan Quayle. ("Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy, I knew Jack Kennedy, Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine," Bentsen had said. "Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy.")

During that same exchange, the biggest zinger of the night was almost Raddatz's. She asked Ryan directly for details on the tax cuts: "Do you actually have the specifics, or are you still working on it?"

Closing out, Raddatz moved back to foreign policy, covering Afghanistan, and then asked the two Catholic candidates how their faith impacts their views on abortion.

Then, with the debate having grown downright testy, Raddatz said, "Let me calm down things here just for a minute," and asked her last question: "If you were elected, what would you both give to this country as a man, and human being, that no one else could?"

Ryan suggested his capacity to solve problems, but then rattled off statistics about jobs and the economy instead of sticking with the question.

Biden, casual, went broad: "Let me tell ya," he said. "My record stands for itself. Whatever I say, I do. I treat Main Street and Wall Street the same. You grow this country from the middle out, not the top down."

In his closing statement, Biden went again for the emotional connection to viewers that he reached for much of the evening. "You probably detected my frustration with [Ryan and Romney's] attitude toward the American people," he said. "All [the American people] are looking for is an even shot. The president and I are not going to rest until they have a clear shot and peace of mind and can say to their family, 'It's gonna be OK.'"

Ryan, in closing, said: "Wouldn't it be nice to have a job creator in the White House?" he asked. "The choice is clear, and the choice rests with you, and we ask you for your vote."

Reaction as EU wins Peace Prize

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Union won the Nobel Peace Prize for its long-term role in uniting the continent, the Norwegian Nobel Committee said on Friday, an award seen as morale boost for the bloc as it struggles to resolve its debt crisis.

Following are reactions to the award:

EUROPEAN COUNCIL PRESIDENT HERMAN VAN ROMPUY

"We are all very proud that the efforts of the EU for keeping the peace in Europe are rewarded.

"Europe got through two civil wars in the 20th century and we have established peace thanks to the European Union. So the European Union is the biggest peacemaker in history."

EU ECONOMIC AND MONETARY AFFAIRS COMMISSIONER OLLI REHN

"Despite some gloom in the economy in Europe, still this is a great day for Europe. This Nobel Peace Prize has apparently been awarded for the contribution of the European Union over the past 60 years to the peace and reconciliation and democracy and human rights. I am very proud of these European values which are also universal human values. This is a proud day for every European."

PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT MARTIN SCHULZ

"This Nobel Peace Prize is for all EU citizens. We in the European Parliament are deeply touched. The European Union has reunited the continent through peaceful means and brought arch enemies together. This historic act of reunification has been rightfully recognized.

"The values of human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and the respect for human rights are absolutely fundamental to the European Union. These fundamental values underpin all of the European Union's activities both internally and in our external policies.

"Several nations are freely negotiating accession to the European Union, a sign that despite challenging economic conditions, the European Union is a magnet for stability, prosperity and democracy.

"The EU's principles and values of reconciliation can serve as an inspiration to other regions in the world. From the Balkans to the Caucasus, the EU serves as a beacon for democracy and reconciliation."

UK INDEPENDENCE PARTY LEADER NIGEL FARAGE

"This goes to show that the Norwegians really do have a sense of humor. The EU may be getting the booby prize for peace because it sure hasn't created prosperity. The EU has created poverty and unemployment for millions.

"In the last two years the EU has caused huge animosity between the countries of Northern and Southern Europe. Just look at Frau Merkel being welcomed with Nazi flags in Athens, and German newspapers slagging off the Greeks as work-shy wonders.

"After watching European Council President Van Rompuy cheerleading for war in Libya with Colonel Gaddafi, this idea of the EU getting a Nobel Peace is ridiculous."

EUROPEAN COMMISSION PRESIDENT JOSE MANUEL BARROSO ON TWITTER, WHERE HE HAS 14,900 FOLLOWERS AND RISING:

"It is a great honor for the whole of the EU, all 500 million citizens, to be awarded the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize."

FORMER GERMAN CHANCELLOR GERHARD SCHROEDER

"This is an important and right decision by the Nobel Prize Committee and a big encouragement for the people in Europe. It comes at the right time for closer togetherness in Europe and it strengthens those powers that are pushing for closer integration in the European Union.

"It's a clear rejection of nationalism and the sole pursuit of national interest. The Nobel Prize Committee deserves respect for this decision.

"And all levels of decision making in the European Union must take this high award as incentive to continue with their fullest power the path to closer integration.

"In this way the European Union can serve as a role model for other regions for a socially, economically, culturally and politically successful community."

FORMER FRENCH PRESIDENT VALERY GISCARD D'ESTAING

"It is right that this extraordinary effort that has been accomplished by the Europeans and their leaders to establish a lasting peace on their continent - historically ravaged by war - is rewarded and honored."

CARL DEVOS, POLITICS PROFESSOR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GHENT

"It's one of the most intelligent awards that has been given and it surely is a celebration and an official recommendation for the importance that the European Union has in keeping world peace, especially in Europe.

"Secondly they have exported a way of making compromises of trying to avoid conflict, of trying to keep talking with each other that you can call a European recipe or a European way of doing business, or a European way of settling conflicts, not by using force like some other regions or world leaders have done.

"As a military force, the European Union is quite weak and it has used that disadvantage to turn it into an advantage and to show the world that you can be important and have influence by just talking and negotiating and renegotiating with people."

Fundation Friday - Become Beauty Firm + Tone Mineral Foundation

Pink Sith: Fundation Friday - Become Beauty Firm + Tone Mineral Foundation - Review, Pictures, Swatches

Fundation Friday - Become Beauty Firm + Tone Mineral Foundation - Review, Pictures, Swatches

Welcome back to Foundation Friday. ?This week I bring you a foundation from Down Under?.No You SICK-O's not that. I mean Australia.

Become Beauty has a huge range of products including skin care and makeup. ?They have a few different lines of skin care, but the Makeup line is limited, simple and straightforward. ?I was sent a tube of the Firm + Tone Mineral Foundation. ?This is a multi-purpose foundation with 30 SPF UVB/UVA protection. It provides translucent coverage in a universal shade (more on that in a second), it helps protect, firm and tone the skin with anti-aging ingredients. The foundation contains?Zinc and Titanium, natural sunscreens,?DMAE?Extract which is an antioxidant and soothes the skin,?Mica, which reduces the appearance of lines and silica which gives a flawless look to the coverage.

Guess what. ?My skin color was not in that "universal" shade range. ?But I soldiered on and tested it, so I could at least tell you how it works. I actually wore it for 2 straight days while I was home on the weekend. (I don't really care if someone at the grocery store sees me with foundation that doesn't match my skin tone.) Since my weekends consist of doing nothing but indulging Darthypie and catching up on lost sleep I was happy to test this out. ?As I said I wore this foundation for two days and getting it to look natural on my pale complexion was a bit of a challenge, but I figured out, on day 2, that if I applied it to the middle of my face, blended out and then used another BB cream on the outside of my face and blend inwards, this foundation could look pretty decent.

I know what you are thinking. ?"Wait a second. How can you review a product after only 2 days of use. ?Don't you normally take weeks to test a product?" ?Yes. I do normally take weeks to test a product. ?I'll tell you why I only took 2 days in just a moment. ?But first...

You all are probably wondering about the color. ?So here it is.

Yup. It's pretty dark and orangey/yellow for me. ?I think darker skin tones would benefit from this much more than I did. ?I do not like that this foundation only comes in one color. ?That's just not cool.

As for how it holds up. Actually quite nicely. ?Applied all over my face with primer on day one the finish was slightly matte and natural looking (despite the color) ?My skin did seem slightly toned and firmer when I was wearing this?but I stress that it was a slight improvement. ?The foundation did a good job of covering up my pores and not settling into fine lines. ?It looked pretty Awesome actually, despite the poor color match. It seemed to fade on my oily skin after 4-5 hours, but that is to be expected with any foundation touted as a translucent finish. ?By the time I figured out how to apply it with a BB cream closer to my skin tone I looked pretty amazing. ?I was ready to recommend this foundation for darker skin tones right away.

But then it happened. ?I started to break out. ?I started to break out in painful cystic like acne in areas of my face that never break out. ?It was then I FINALLY looked at the ingredients and I saw that one word that strikes dread into my cold black heart. ?Cyclopentasiloxane. Yup. That dreaded silicone that is in countless makeup products. ?It's not typical to react the way I do to?Cyclopentasiloxane, but it is possible. ?Yup. ?This is one of the few silicones that makes me break out in huge hurty cystic acne. ?It sucks, because some products that are really awesome contain this ingredient. ?But, like I said, my reaction is not typical and most people can, and are, currently wearing this silicone on a daily basis with no issues what so ever. ?And that is why I didn't test this foundation for more than 2 days.

So do you NEED this? ?I know I certainly do not. ?You might need this. ?If you don't have issues with?Cyclopentasiloxane and you aren't?any lighter than a MAC NC20 or Darker than a MAC NC35. ?(A MAC NC40 might be able to make this work.) this could work for you. That's a pretty narrow window of skin tones if you ask me but the majority of the US falls into this range. ? Perhaps as Become Beauty expands they will also expand their range of colors for the Firm + Tone Mineral Foundation. ?That way women of color and non color (like myself) can also benefit from this product. ?However, I will never benefit from it as long as?Cyclopentasiloxane is in it. ?It's not fair to condemn a product just because?Cyclopentasiloxane is the main ingredient. I get that. I know my reaction is not typical. ?

So what am I going to do with a tube of Mineral foundation that is skin suicide for me? ?I'm going to give it to my buddy that doesn't have this reaction to?Cyclopentasiloxane and has much darker skin than I do. ?But what about you dear reader? ?Perhaps you too are yearning for this foundation because you have the ideal skin coloring and no issues with?Cyclopentasiloxane. ?Just because I personally didn't like a product for non typical skin reaction I experienced doesn't mean that YOU won't like it. ?I get that we are all special snow flakes and that everyone is different. ?That's why I agreed to hold a giveaway!

The generous people at Become have not only sent me a tube of the Firm + Tone Mineral Foundation to review, but they gave given me one to give away as well! ?Sorry tho, this is open to US residents only. ?Just enter using the rafflecopter widget below. ?You can earn extra entries by liking me on Facebook, following me on Twitter, visiting the Become Beauty website, and more.

Good luck to everyone entering!

Gene Deletion Linked to Mental Illness, Obesity | Psych Central News

By Traci Pedersen Associate News Editor
Reviewed by John M. Grohol, Psy.D. on October 11, 2012

Gene Deletion Linked to Mental Illness, ObesityResearchers have pinpointed a small region in the genome ? the entirety of human hereditary information ??as a vital factor in the development of psychiatric disease and obesity.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor, or BDNF, is a nervous system growth factor that plays a critical role in brain development.? To determine the role of BDNF in humans, McGill researchers screened over 35,000 people referred for genetic screening at clinics, as well as over 30,000 control subjects in the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Researchers found five individuals with BDNF deletions, all of whom were obese, had a mild-moderate intellectual impairment, and had a mood disorder.

The children had anxiety disorders, aggressive disorders, or attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), while post-pubescent individuals had anxiety and major depressive disorders. Subjects slowly gained weight with age, suggesting that obesity is a long-term process when BDNF is deleted.

The results of the new study, published in the Archives of General Psychiatry, reveal for the first time the link between BDNF deletion, cognition, and weight gain in humans.

?Scientists have been trying to find a region of the genome which plays a role in human psychopathology, searching for answers anywhere in our DNA that may give us a clue to the genetic causes of these types of disorders,? said?Carl Ernst, Ph.D., from McGill?s Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine.

?Our study conclusively links a single region of the genome to mood and anxiety.?

Based on animal studies, BDNF has been a suspect of several functions in the brain, but no study has proven what happens when BDNF is missing from the human genome. The new study helps provide a better understanding of human behavior and mood by clearly identifying genes associated with mental disorders.

?Mood and anxiety can be seen like a house of cards. In this case, the walls of the house represent the myriad of biological interactions that maintain the structure,? said Ernst, who is also a researcher at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute.

?Studying these moving parts can be tricky, so teasing apart even a single event is important. Linking a deletion in BDNF conclusively to mood and anxiety really tells us that it is possible to dissect the biological pathways involved in determining how we feel and act.?

?We now have a molecular pathway we are confident is involved in psychopathology,? he adds.? ?Because thousands of genes are involved in mood, anxiety, or obesity, it allows us to root our studies on a solid foundation.?

?All of the participants in our study had mild-moderate intellectual disability, but most people with these cognitive problems do not have psychiatric problems ? so what is it about deletion of BDNF that affects mood? My hope now is to test the hypothesis that boosting BDNF in people with anxiety or depression might improve brain health.?
