This Weekend: Lackawanna Community Fun Days

Jeffery Taggart Memorial Park will be the site for family fun, community support Friday, Saturday and Sunday

LACKAWANNA, N.Y. ? Jeffery Taggart Memorial Park will be the place to be this weekend, as Lackawanna kicks off its Community Fun Days. The three-day event, which runs Friday through Sunday, combines family fun and community support. Throughout the weekend, there will be live music, games for the kids and a basketball tournament. Friday and Saturday, area residents can also gain access to support and information at a Health, Wellness and Resource Fair.

Lackawanna Community Fun Days will run Friday, 1 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday, 12 to 6 p.m. Residents and visitors will enjoy food and retail vendors, live entertainment, face painting, arts & crafts, free pony rides, a dunk tank and basketball tournament. ?

Senator Tim Kennedy and event organizers will officially kick off the event at an opening ceremony, which will be held Friday at 2 p.m.

Saturday morning, area families are invited to participate in the children?s parade. The parade lines up at 9:30 a.m. and starts at 10 a.m.

The Health, Wellness and Resource Fair runs Friday, 1 to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 12 to 4 p.m. Services available include health screenings for blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and BMI; children?s development screenings; as well as dental, eye and dietary screenings. Several organizations that provide community support will be available for area residents.

Lackawanna Community Fun Days is sponsored by Citizens of Lackawanna?s Future, Baker Victory Services, Catholic Health, Child Pro/Monarch Little Learners Academy, Lackawanna Area Chamber of Commerce, Lackawanna Municipal Housing Authority and the Mobile Safety-Net Team

Sponsors of the Health Wellness and Resource Fair include Senator Kennedy, Congressman Brian Higgins, Judge Louis Violanti, Catholic Health Home Care, Community Action Organization, GA Family Services, Lackawanna Area Chamber of Commerce, Law Offices of Frank L. Bybel and Lucarelli?s Banquet Center.

Event organizers recommend bringing a lawn chair for evening concert events.?
